Harbor Care Cancels Annual Thanksgiving Gathering
Nashua – Harbor Care announces it is cancelling its 20th annual Thanksgiving dinner celebration due to COVID-19.
In years past, the dinner served about 300 individuals who are homeless or at-risk of homelessness, and brought the community together in fellowship. Dozens of volunteers, including the Governor, members of NH’s congressional delegation, the mayor, and other state and local officials, helped make this event possible.
“While it disappoints us greatly to cancel this community tradition, the safety of the individuals and families we serve is paramount,” states Peter Kelleher, Harbor Care’s CEO. “We hope to continue our Thanksgiving event in the future when there are safer operating conditions. While we won’t be holding a public gathering, the need in our community is still there and intensifying. We will be reaching out to our vulnerable community members to provide any assistance we can.”
Harbor Care will continue to provide a holiday meal and celebration to residents of its Veteran housing complexes, several residential group homes, and patients at its substance use disorder treatment center in a safe manner. The organization will also be connecting with its service participants to identify needs and provide help during the holiday. If a person or family is experiencing hardship, Harbor Care encourages you to reach out to us at 603-882-3616 or hope@harborcarenh.org.
Community members can still support their neighbors in need this Thanksgiving by donating to Harbor Care’s Dignity of Home initiative. Donations can be made online at dignityofhomenh.org or by mail: 77 Northeastern Blvd., Nashua, NH 03062, Attn: Dignity of Home.
