Supportive Services for Veteran Families
It is better to stop homelessness before it starts. Our Supportive Services for Veterans Families program (SSVF, for short) helps those at immediate risk of homelessness side-step it altogether. If you or your family are homeless or at-risk of homelessness anywhere in NH, please contact us or call NH211.
How It Works
Our case managers and outreach staff work with veterans and their families across New Hampshire to make sure they have secure housing and the support necessary to maintain housing. We offer:
Housing counseling.
Assistance with benefits, such as those offered through the VA.
Referrals for health care, legal services, and financial planning.
Financial assistance to support case management goals.
Connection to other Veteran Services and Harbor Care services, including veteran transitional and supportive housing, if appropriate.
With funding from the US Department of Veteran Affairs, we serve hundreds of households throughout NH each year.

Qualifications & Application
We can help any veteran with 24 or more hours of active duty, who:
Is in economic hardship.
Is homeless or in a housing crisis.
Lives in New Hampshire.

SSG Fox is a VA-funded statewide emotional wellness program for veterans and their families. Our goal is to provide hope, support, and a lifeline to those who need it most.
Outreach to identify and provide services to those at risk of suicide
Baseline mental wellbeing screening for risk
Education and training on suicide prevention to providers, family members, and the community at large
Case Management Services will coordinate the provision of all needed services
Peer support services provided by a veteran with similar lived experiences who will be side by side with the individual during the entire program
VA benefits assistance for eligible individuals and their families
Assistance with obtaining and coordinating other federal, state and local benefits
All services are free for eligible individuals/families.
WHO IS A VETERAN? This program is available to individuals who have served in the military and their families. All services are free for those eligible.
Transitional Housing
NH’s veterans are resourceful and hardworking. To escape homelessness, they often only need to regain steady footing, such as a safe home and routine health care. Harbor Care’s Transitional Housing program and facilities provides veterans and their families the safe, supportive environment they need to reclaim stability. How It Works
In our Transitional Housing, veterans and their families live in private apartments in one of our three apartment complexes located in Nashua and Manchester.
While living in Transitional Housing, veterans pursue employment, further their education, or expand their skills by volunteering in the community. They work closely with both a case manager and, as needed, an employment specialist to permanently escape homelessness. Through our integrated services, as well as community partners, they also access health care, transportation, and meaningful income. This program is sponsored through a US Department of Veteran Affairs grant.
By the end of their stay, veterans have the income and healthcare they need to live independently, with pride and dignity.
Qualifications & Cost
The program serves veterans who are homeless. Once accepted into the program, veterans and their families pay an affordable portion of their income towards rent.
Locations
Harbor Homes currently operates three transitional housing facilities throughout NH.
Buckingham Place is a 20-unit, one- and two-bedroom apartment complex at 46 Spring Street in Nashua. The facility provides handicapped-accessible apartments as well as common areas and a large community room. Named “Buckingham Place” after Byron Buckingham, a local veteran advocate, the facility was the first of its kind in the nation to house male and female veterans, as well as their families.
Dalianis House is a 40-unit apartment complex located at 59 Factory Street in Nashua. In 2010, Harbor Care spearheaded a massive renovation of the property (once a furniture outlet), and now serves male veterans in one bedroom and single room occupancy apartments.
BAE Systems Independence Hall is a 26-unit one- and two-bedroom apartment complex for male and female veterans and their families, located at 335 Somerville Street in Manchester. Six of the apartments house veteran households permanently in supportive housing.
Boulder Point Veterans Housing
Opened in July 2019, Boulder Point Veteran Housing is located in Plymouth, New Hampshire. It offers 25 one-bedroom apartments dedicated to veterans experiencing homelessness, through partnerships with both the White River Junction Veteran Affair Medical Center and the US Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Veteran Supportive Housing vouchers (HUD-VASH Program). The facility also offers five two-bedroom affordable (not subsidized) two-bedroom apartments. Check for current openings or contact us for more information and to see if you qualify.
Location & Amenities
A 27,000 square foot, two-story, handicapped accessible/adaptable building, Boulder Point Veteran Housing is located on a picturesque 11-acre property. It features plenty of parking and outdoor space, as well as a large community room, a library/game room, in-unit washers and dryers, and several private offices for residents to receive case management and supportive services.
The program provides mentoring, case management, and supportive services for residents who choose to participate. All participants receive on-site access to coaching in eviction prevention, increasing household income and assets, increasing health and well-being, general life skills, and improving the educational success of children and youth.
Qualifications & Cost
For one-bedroom units, only individuals and households certified as eligible for a HUD-VASH voucher by the US Department of Veteran Affairs may apply. For two-bedroom units, veterans and their families are preferred, but non-veteran households may also apply; eligibility is based on income.
Residents pay roughly 30% of their income toward rent. Income eligibility is based on household size. For a single person, income cannot exceed 50% of the region’s average median income. For a two-person household, income cannot exceed 60% of the region’s average median income.
Heat and electricity are included. Residents are responsible for cable and internet in their individual units. Security deposits equal one month’s rent.
