Board member Trent Smith leaves the Harbor Care board of directors at the end of 2020 after many years of dedicated service and leadership. We wish to express our heartfelt gratitude for his strong advocacy, tireless efforts, and acknowledge his immeasurable contributions that he brought to the board and to the organization.

I can’t think of a greater unsung hero.
— Peter Kelleher, Harbor Care President & CEO

As a former chair of the board at Milford Regional Counseling Services (MRCS), Trent joined the Harbor Care board of directors (formally the Partnership for Successful Living) in the 1980s when MRCS became one of the Partnership’s affiliated agencies. He continued to serve on the board for close to three years, left for a period, then returned to rejoin the board, accruing an impressive total of nearly 15 years. During his tenure, he served as Chair of the Executive committee; Chair of the Governance Committee and Chair of the Harbor Care Health and Wellness Center Oversight Committee. He has also served as member of the Resource Development & Policy Committee for several years.

“Trent has always distinguished himself as a judicious steward of our organization and has never faltered when making difficult or unpopular decisions,” stated CEO of Harbor Care, Peter Kelleher. “I can’t think of a greater unsung hero; he has shown relentless energy and enthusiasm throughout the many years of his board career. Trent has been an authentic and loyal member and a true champion for the organization’s best interests. I am grateful for the many roles he took on and his endless supply of energy and insight.”

I joined the board of directors because I was profoundly impressed and committed to the mission and what the organization pursues in helping those most in need.
— Trent Smith

We asked about some of his fondest memories on the board. Trent recalled that one of his most gratifying endeavors was when he spearheaded the effort to completely furnish — to the last detail — two of Harbor Cares’ temporary housing facilities for veterans and their families. He also enjoyed being a member of the Oversight Committee. It was here that he assisted management and staff in the agency’s federally qualified health clinic to provide the best possible primary, behavioral and dental heath care to the community’s most vulnerable neighbors. Trent is proud to have played a key role in bringing on new board members and helping to build a cohesive group of tenacious and devoted volunteers to the cause while at the same time, having forged deep and lasting friendships.

My board service was one of the most positive experiences of my life.
— Trent Smith

“I joined the board of directors because I was profoundly impressed and committed to the mission and what the organization pursues in helping those most in need. Over my tenure, I participated in an array of functions that I found very rewarding. I enjoyed helping those who critically needed what the organization offers in support through housing and healthcare,” Trent said. “My board service was one of the most positive experiences of my life and I will greatly miss my involvement and my fellow colleagues.”

Trent and his wife Judy will now be calling Florida their primary home. They plan to enjoy retirement with family and friends.
