Michelle Leclerc, Family Nurse Practitioner
Michelle received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at St. Anselm College, and received a Master of Science in Nursing at Hunter Bellevue School of Nursing, City University of New York. She received her Post Graduate Adult Nurse Practitioner Certificate from Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions.
When Michelle joined the staff of Harbor Care in January 2019, she already had more than 20 years of nursing experience. Though this was her first time focusing on treating substance use disorders, she had always been aware that medical resources are important in the treatment of substance use disorders. She has worked in New York City and Boston, and now is happy to be back home in New Hampshire.
As a nurse, she worked on several hospital units, for a doctor’s office, at Joslin Diabetes Center, and as a visiting nurse in Boston. She has served as a nurse practitioner at ambulatory care clinics, nursing homes and assisted-living facilities. During these years she learned that access to appropriate healthcare is crucial to patient success. She didn’t realize until coming to Harbor Care, however, what a difference public health can make. She says: “All the medical resources are like water under a bridge if there is no “home” to go back to. If you are not safe where you live, health can be short-lived.”
Michelle goes on to explain that she values how Harbor Care focuses on the whole person – not just healthcare. “People coming back from little or no resources, and those that help them, are my heroes. It takes strength and hope to make the seemingly impossible changes happen.”
