More Ways to Give
There are many ways to support Harbor Care financially. Listed below are a few additional ways people have given to Harbor Care over the years.
+ Memorial and Tribute Gifts
When you make a gift in memory or in honor of someone, we can send notice of the gift to whomever you designate. We do not specify the amount of the donation unless you request it. You may customize your message to the person you’re honoring by enclosing a note with your donations or contacting us. You will receive a formal acknowledgment and receipt for your donation.
+ Monthly Giving
Make monthly gifts to Harbor Care to help individuals and families receive vital services, including housing and healthcare, and become a member of Caregivers: a special group of loyal donors.
Monthly, automated contributions are easy—your gift is automatically charged to your credit card or deducted from your checking account—and impactful. Your monthly donation, of any amount, provides a dependable source of funding to impact the lives of our most vulnerable community members. For more information click here.
+ Make a Stock Gift
By making a gift of your appreciated securities, you can avoid paying capital gains tax that would otherwise be due if you sold these assets. To make a gift of stock, you simply set up a stock transfer. Once the transfer is complete, Harbor Care sells the stock and puts the proceeds to use supporting our programs and services. To make a stock gift to Harbor Care, you can use an electronic transfer through your bank or broker. Please contact us for further details.
+ Donor Advised Funds (DAF)

+ Gift your IRA Distribution
A charitable IRA rollover enables donors age 70½ or older to transfer up to $100,000 directly from your IRA (or IRAs) to Harbor Care. You do not have to recognize the transfer as taxable income on your tax return.
+ Leave a Legacy with a Planned Gift
Make a gift that costs nothing during your lifetime. Gift planning is a simple yet powerful way to impact the lives of NH residents in need well, while creating a lasting legacy. There are many ways to accomplish this, including through your will, insurance policy, retirement assets, securities, Charitable Gift Annuity, and real estate.
Wills and Bequests
You can make a provision in your will or trust for Harbor Care, set to your specifications. It is important to use very specific language. Suggestions for language to use when making this provision vary, depending on your wishes. An estate planner or an attorney can help you. But, here are some examples:
- Bequest of cash: “I bequeath the sum of $____ to Harbor Care, Nashua, NH.”
- Bequest of a percent of the estate: “I devise and bequeath ____ of the remainder and residue of property owned at my death, whether real or personal, and wherever located to Harbor Care, Nashua, NH.”
- Contingent Bequest: “If my (example: brother John Doe) survives me, I devise and bequeath _ of the remainder and residue of property owned at my death, whether real or personal, and wherever located to (example: John Doe). If (example: John Doe) does not survive me, then I devise and bequeath ____ of my residuary estate, whether real or personal property and wherever located to the Harbor Care, Nashua, NH.”
Insurance Policy, Retirement Assets, Commercial Annuities
Not everyone wants to commit to making a gift in their will or estate. Some prefer the increased flexibility that a beneficiary designation provides by using:
- IRAs and retirement plans
- Life insurance policies
- Commercial annuities
It only takes three, simple steps to make this type of gift. Here's how to name Harbor Care as a beneficiary:
- Contact your retirement plan administrator, insurance company, bank or financial institution for a change-of-beneficiary form.
- Decide what percentage (1 to 100) you would like us to receive and name Harbor Care, along with the percentage you chose, on the beneficiary form.
- Return the completed form to your plan administrator, insurance company, bank or financial institution.
Charitable Gift Annuity
A charitable gift annuity is a way for you to support Harbor Care and feel confident that you have dependable income in your retirement years. This type of donation can provide you with regular payments and allow us to further our work. You can also qualify for a variety of tax benefits, including a federal income tax charitable deduction when you itemize. To learn more about this gift option, please contact us.
Real Estate
A gift of your real property (such as your home, vacation property, vacant land, farmland, ranch, or commercial property) can make a great donation. If you own appreciated real property, you can avoid paying capital gains tax by making a gift to us.

Interns/Students at Harbor Care
Clinical Internship Opportunities
Harbor Care offers select clinical internship positions each year. Harbor Care interns provide direct client care through these opportunities and often receive class credit. These positions are limited and are typically filled 3-12 months in advance. Most clinical internships must be approved and overseen by a Masters-level Clinician, Registered Nurse, or Medical Doctor.
Clinical interns include individuals seeking to complete their licensing requirements, undergraduate degree or master-level degree, or Doctoral students seeking to complete their residency rotation or practicum.
At this time, Harbor Care is at capacity for internships. We are currently reviewing the Internship Program to develop an internship program model that can align with the competencies of our prospective students and provide an integrated learning experience among the many services we provide to offer more opportunities for our future leaders.
For those interested in interning with Harbor Care, click here to add your name and information to our Interest/Wait List. The waitlist is for prospective students seeking to begin internships for the Summer or Fall of 2024.
For more information regarding our Doctoral Internships in Health Service Psychology, click here.
Non-clinical Internship Opportunities
We also offer non-clinical internships. These internships with no direct client care are more flexible and usually are arranged through a third party, such as AmeriCorps, a school, university, City Year, or other service organizations. We invite those interested to propose an internship at Harbor Care in coordination with their organization or institution.
This is an opportunity to be creative by designing an internship that suits the needs of all involved. Many potential internships exist within our various departments, such as IT, HR, Accounting, Marketing/ Communications, Fundraising, Accounting, Quality Improvement, Compliance, and Business.
