Harbor Care Launches New Substance Use Treatment Service

Are you struggling with alcohol or substance use?

Harbor Care is excited to announce the launch of a new outpatient rehabilitation option: the High Intensity Outpatient Program (HIOP) to address the persistent substance use crisis that is facing our community. This program offers substance use treatment with optimal flexibility and the most intensive level of outpatient care. HIOP includes access to recovery housing and Harbor Care’s extensive range of mental health and medical services, regardless of one’s ability to pay.

"We understand that for some individuals, inpatient drug rehabilitation may not be feasible due to work or family obligations,” said Henry Och, President & CEO. “In these cases, HIOP offers a valuable alternative. This program allows patients to collaborate with their care providers to design a customized plan that accommodates their daily needs and responsibilities, providing a flexible and effective path to recovery."

For more information or to register, call the Harbor Care Health & Wellness Center at 603-821-7788 or visit www.harborcarenh.org/healthcare.

Offering flexibility, personalized care, and comprehensive treatment, HIOP can lead to a drug- and alcohol-free lifestyle; improved self-esteem and self-awareness; positive coping and problem-solving skills; and a supportive network for long-term recovery with access to statewide peer support. The program features licensed clinicians, addiction specialists, and medical professionals (some in recovery themselves) delivering evidence-based, trauma-informed services that are gender-specific and customized to each client’s unique needs. These services help clients address a wide range of topics, including relapse prevention, trauma issues, and anger management.

HIOP and most of Harbor Care’s outpatient programs take place at the Harbor Care Health & Wellness Center, located at 45 High Street in downtown Nashua. Treatment typically involves three to six days a week in three to six-hour time blocks for several weeks, based on each client’s needs. In addition to HIOP (sometimes called PHP), Harbor Care operates numerous substance use treatment programs, including Medication Assisted Treatment and a residential program for pregnant and parenting women (Cynthia Day Family Center).

Harbor Care makes substance use treatment affordable for all with a sliding-fee scale based on the client’s income, and accepts Medicaid, Medicare, and most private insurance.

Harbor Care also opened a new peer-run recovery house last year to further support those in need of a safe environment while in treatment. The house is certified by the NH Coalition of Recovery Residences. There are plans to open two additional recovery houses in the future.
