Hassan Secures $250K Increase for Harbor Care
Thank you to U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan for securing additional funding for 10 community health centers statewide. This includes $250,000 for our own Harbor Care Health & Wellness Center in downtown Nashua. The funds will be used to bolster Harbor Care’s Healthcare for the Homeless clinic and will remain in effect until Dec. 31.
“Harbor Care is thrilled by the advocacy spearheaded by Sen. Hassan, leading to a much-needed increase in grant funding,” said Harbor Care President & CEO Henry Och. “This boost, amounting to 10 percent of our base grant, significantly enhances our capacity to provide medical, behavioral and dental health care regardless of an individual’s ability to pay. This empowers us to deliver crucial services to more than 2,500 individuals and families experiencing or are at risk of homelessness in Greater Nashua, reinforcing our commitment to increased access to vital healthcare resources.”

The funding package also includes two bills that address the influx of fentanyl, which continues to fuel the opioid epidemic. The first bill would “permanently require coverage for medication-assisted treatment for substance use disorder under Medicaid.” The second bill would “expand access to short-term inpatient treatment at addiction treatment facilities under Medicaid.”
“My bipartisan bills to combat the fentanyl crisis will help more people access the addiction treatment and recovery services they need,” said Hassan. “I hope that the House will continue working with the Senate on a bipartisan basis to pass the remaining government funding bills to help tackle the urgent priorities that Americans are facing.”
Since taking office six years ago, Hassan has secured a “nine-fold increase” in funding to help individuals suffering from substance use.
